    The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus was thirty minutes of solid entertainment crammed into two hours of above average art direction and cinematography. Sadly, Terry Gilliam’s new film never delivers on its promises. Doctor Parnassus is visually appealing; the music is good.     The MPPC was there, at Comic-Con last July, when director James Cameron unveiled 28 minutes of his epic Avatar for an audience of influentials. Reaction then was mixed. The special effects were clearly game-changing, but the crowd of mostly-male fanboys wondered if they could truly get behind the charge of the blue-cat brigade.     Director Neil Blomkamp got to make District 9 as a consolation prize. But it’s a bit like going to restaurant where they’re all out of hamburgers, and the staff tries to keep you in your chair by offering Kobe beef.
